Disney Ice, Anaheim, CA

David created the business case and led the development team on this $13 million twin sheet ice skating facility, designed by Frank Gehry, that was completed in 1995.  The project, located in a redevelopment area in downtown Anaheim, was the result of a unique public private partnership between Disney and the City of Anaheim that also included the formation of a nonprofit program, Disney Goals (Growth Opportunities Through Athletics, Learning, and Service) that continues to serve the local youth community. It also serves as the practice rink for the Mighty Ducks Hockey Team.



Featured Projects.

Between 1993-1996, David led Disney’s development team on the $36 million renovation and restoration of New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City. This award-winning project, which was designed by Hugh Hardy, led to the broader rebirth of 42nd Street accomplished by the 42nd Street Development Project Inc. -- a joint city-state agency -- and numerous private entities including AMC Theaters and Madame Tussaud’s. The restored art-moderne masterpiece was the home of Disney’s blockbuster Lion King for 10 years.

IDEA1, San Diego, CA

IDEA1, comprised of 295 residential units, 7,700 square feet of creative office, and 5,000 square feet of restaurants will be completed in October of 2017. It represents a new kind of mixed-use project that aims to create a place that augments the lives of residents, tenants, and visitors. The building design, restaurant and office tenants, and amenities of IDEA1 have all been thoughtfully curated with inspiration in mind. The central gathering space of the project, the 12,000-square foot HUB, will become a “stage” that showcases the creativity of I.D.E.A. District inhabitants. 

Hollywood and Highland, Hollywood, CA

David was the project executive on Hollywood & Highland, a $615 million retail / entertainment / hotel complex completed in 2001. The mix includes 360,000 sq. ft. of fashion retail and 11 restaurants, a 6-plex addition to the adjacent Grauman’s Chinese Theater, the 40,000-sq. ft. Grand Ballroom operated by Wolfgang Puck Catering, the 640 room Hollywood Renaissance Hotel (now Loews Hotel)), and the 3600-seat Kodak Theatre (now Dolby Theater), annual home to the Academy Awards ®. The project, designed by EEK Architects and The Rockwell Group is credited with catalyzing the rebirth of Hollywood Boulevard


Between 1997 and 2001, David led the design, permitting, and public outreach efforts in the reimagining and redevelopment of a failed enclosed mall (Plaza Pasadena) on Pasadena’s main street, Colorado Blvd. The resulting project is a highly successful $120 million mixed-use center with 450,000 square feet of upscale retail, restaurants and a 16-screen cinema, 391 luxury rental units (developed by Post Properties), and beautiful public spaces connecting the project to the City’s historic core. The project has reinvigorated this important section of Colorado Blvd and is widely-studied as an example of successful mixed-use development.

In 2010, David started his development company to create art-inspired places that transform communities. The following year, he and Pete Garcia formed I.D.E.A. Partners to lead the development of the I.D.E.A. District ( -- Innovation + Design + Education + Arts -- in downtown San Diego.  This transformative initiative, located on 35 city blocks in the Upper East Village, aims to create a vibrant, sustainable mixed-use neighborhood that will generate thousands of high-paying design and technology jobs in coming years. 

In November 2015, I.D.E.A. Partners and Lowe Enterprises Real Estate Group broke ground on the $91 million IDEA1 project, the first new mixed-use development in the District, containing 295 residential units, 8,000 square feet of creative office, and 5,000 square feet of restaurants. When completed in October 2017, IDEA1 will join multiple new entrants in the District including FabLab (maker space), Urban Discovery Academy (K-8 charter school), two highly successful tactical urbanism projects, SILO and Quartyard, a 50,000-square foot creative office building, and numerous new housing and retail spaces. In July of 2017, UC San Diego broke ground on a 66,000-square foot Innovative Education and Cultural Center in I.D.E.A. District firmly establishing it as the heart of downtown San Diego’s emerging innovation cluster.


Prior to starting his own firm, David was the Founder and a Managing Director for eight years with RCLCO’s Development Services Group. David drew upon his 25 years of experience in the development business, which has included completion as principal developer of over $1 billion in high-profile projects, to assist a variety of corporate and institutional clients in the planning and execution of headquarters, mixed-use, entertainment, and waterfront developments.


Between 1996-2002, David was a Senior Vice President at TrizecHahn Development Corporation. During his six-year tenure, he was the Project Executive on the $615 million Hollywood & Highland entertainment complex, designed by EEK and Rockwell Group, including the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel (now Loews Hotel) and the Kodak Theater (now Dolby Theater), home to the annual Academy Awards ®.  During this same period, he also initiated the development of Paseo Colorado, a successful $120 million mixed-use project on Pasadena’s main boulevard.

Prior to his position at TrizecHahn, David was Vice President/General Manager at Disney Development Company-West. During his nine years at The Walt Disney Company, he managed the development of over $200 million in entertainment and corporate projects including The Feature Animation Building in Burbank, designed by Robert A.M. Stern, and Disney Ice in Anaheim with architect and hockey player Frank Gehry.


From 1993-1996 he spearheaded Disney’s restoration of the award-winning New Amsterdam Theater in New York with architect Hugh Hardy, and the highly acclaimed development of additional retail/entertainment business on New York’s famed 42nd Street.
